Indiana

I’m writing this post on my iPhone in a TGI Friday’s bar in the Indy airport, so pardon any errors or berevity. Kind of impressed the iPhone can handle Wordpress software with no problems.

I arrived in Indy four days ago just a few hours before the failed terrorist attempt. My parents picked me up and we embarked on the four hour drive to Central Illinois that actually took five hours to visit Grandparents and extended family.

On the way, we drove through Mahomet, Illinois which I know is where Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke grew up. I texted him and found out he was in town for the holidays and told him maybe, if it’s alright with him of course, that we could drop by for a second to say hi on Sunday morning on the way back to Indy.

When Sunday morning rolled around, we had to leave my Grandparents’ at 6:30 am in inclimate weather to drop my sister off at the Peoria airport. By the time we reached Mahomet I was so sleep deprived and grouchy all I wanted to do was keep trying to sleep on the highway. Anyway, sorry Jimmy, I’ll see you this summer. =)

I spent the last two nights at my friend’s in Indy hanging out with other friends and watching football. I ran awesome in bets against my friend Dave Irish. Pretty sure I relieved him of whatever Christmas money he might have gotten, and then some. Sorry buddy. =)

Today, I got to the airport 2.5 hours before my flight back to Houston after hearing horror stories of painfully slow security lines in the wake of the attempted bombing. My luck streak came to an abrupt end when I got through security in two minutes (despite being “randomly” selected for the body imaging scan) and came out on the other end to discover my flight is delayed two hours. That’s on me though for not checking my flight status before leaving my friend’s house like I almost always do. Stupid.

So that brings me to why I’m writing a blog entry on an iPhone in an airport bar; why not?

I couldn’t agree more with Nat Arem’s assessment of how horribly reactionary and senseless the security response to this incident has been. Honestly, not letting people out of their seat because the bomber went to the bathroom near the end of his flight. How does that make anyone any safer?!

This weekend I’m going to a friend’s wedding in Dallas. Really looking forward to it; although I’m not the marriage-minded type at this stage of my life, I still find attending weddings to usually be really fun.

All for now. Here’s to my flight not being delayed any further!
