Weekday Poker

I can’t think of the last time I played online poker on a day that wasn’t Sunday. Since fewer casual players are around during the week and the prize pools are smaller, I kind of view playing on a weeknight as a waste of time. It’s like, why play a bunch of smallish buy-in tournaments that are filled with regulars? I’m going to fire up some tables tonight though. FTOPS XIII kicks off tonight with a $216 buy-in $1 million guaranteed event (which is actually larger than their marque Sunday tournament!) Of course, since I have one table going, I might as well get a few more going, right? I’m going to play a couple of $55 freezeouts, a $10 and $20 rebuy, and this $27 satellite Stars is having with an overlay of 100 seats (valued at $215 each).

I wish Full Tilt used the structure that they’re using tonight (5,000 starting chips) for the $750k on a weekly basis (which starts you at 3,000 chips and is therefore no different than most of their other smaller events). I think my favorite structure for online tournaments is the one Stars uses for the Warm-Up, Million, and 500. There’s something psychological about starting with 10,000 chips that I really like. For whatever reason, Full Tilt must not want to follow Stars’ lead on this particular note. And while I’m thinking about it, it would be really nice if Stars went to the synchronized breaks like Full Tilt does so players always had the last five minutes of each hour to be away from their computer.

Whoever is lucky enough to final table this FTOPS event has a very long night ahead of them. The cards go in the air in a few minutes at 8:00 p.m. CT!
